Decide whether the Oztent RX-5 Deluxe fits your group camping setup. We break down its two-room design, the living room and tub floor, and when the tent-only RX-5 makes more sense.
Quick answer
Buy the Oztent RX-5 Deluxe if you want a fully enclosed two-room base camp for a large family or group and value the added living room and zip-in tub floor. Choose the standard RX-5 tent only if you already have a separate shelter or don't need the extra enclosed space.
What the Deluxe package actually adds
The RX-5 Deluxe combines the RX-5 30 Second tent with the RX-5 Living Room to create a fully enclosed large tent in one package. That means the Deluxe is not a different tent shell with a longer feature list; it is the same fast-pitch RX-5 platform plus an extra room and a zip-in tub floor. If you are comparing listings, check whether the living room and tub floor are included, because those are the parts that turn the RX-5 into a two-room setup.
Where the two-room layout earns its keep
A second room matters most on trips where the tent is also the gathering space: rainy afternoons, buggy evenings, or trips with kids who need a clean transition zone before bed. The living room gives you a place to sit and store gear without crowding the sleeping area, and the zip-in tub floor adds a defined, enclosed floor in that space. For a couple or a solo camper who mostly sleeps and moves on, that extra room is weight and cost you may not use.
Setup expectations and what the catalog does not state
The RX-5 platform is marketed as a 30-second tent, which is the relevant setup benchmark here. The Deluxe adds the living room and tub floor, so plan for extra time to attach and tension those parts beyond the initial pitch. The supplied catalog does not list packed size, weight, or sleeping capacity, so do not assume a number from other RX-5 listings; confirm those figures with Oztent USA before you buy if they affect your vehicle or campsite.
Decision rules for choosing the RX-5 Deluxe
- Choose the Deluxe if the tent is your group's main room: If your group will sit, eat, or wait out weather inside the tent, the living room and tub floor justify the Deluxe package over the tent-only RX-5. List the trips where you would actually use a second room before paying for it.
- Choose the tent-only RX-5 if you already have a shelter: If you carry a gazebo, tarp, or separate dining shelter, the RX-5 tent only covers sleeping and storage, and the Deluxe living room duplicates space you already have.
- Confirm packed size and weight before ordering: The supplied catalog does not state packed dimensions, weight, or sleeping capacity for the Deluxe. Check those figures with Oztent USA against your vehicle and campsite before committing. Measure your vehicle space first; the two-room package is the larger configuration.
- Plan setup around the living room, not just the 30-second pitch: Treat the 30-second figure as the tent pitch only. Add time for attaching the living room and fitting the zip-in tub floor, especially on your first trip. Do a full practice setup at home before your first group trip.
